Group holds interfaith dialogue to enhance peaceful coexistence in Yobe

A group, Citizens Concern for Women and Children Welfare Initiative, has organised an interfaith dialogue to promote peace and harmony in Yobe State.
The programme was organised in partnership with Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace and Youth Initiative Against Terrorism.
The Syndicate reports that the aim is to mitigate inter-religious conflict, and chart sustainable course for peaceful coexistence in the society.
Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Abubakar, the Executive Director of the group, emphasised the common identities between Islam and Christianity.
She stated that the workshop with the theme, ‘Setting peace for youth and women-led interfaith peace building’, was focused on the education of women and children, and promoting community engagement.
According to her, the target is to build a community of dialogue to instill peace, unity, and stability in the society.
Also, Mr Aliyu Muhammad, a fellow of the initiative, highlighted community’s role in peace-building, and showcased Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation’s achievements in peace building, education, healthcare, and conflict resolution.
He urged the participants to utilise the knowledge gained to advance peace and development in their communities.
In his remarks, Alhaji Bukar Modu Jumbam, a community leader, stressed the importance of inter-generational dialogue for peace, and called on governments to address the root causes of youth conflict.
Superintendent of Police Dungus Abdulkareem, the Police Public Relations Officer in Yobe state, said that the engagement would have positive impact on the security situation in the state, which has greatly improved in recent times.
The Syndicate reports that two papers were presented on improving inter-personal and inter-communal relations from Islamic and Christian perspectives by Professor Ali Manzo Usman and Pastor Istifanus Adamu Dauda, respectively.
