Hockey Super League: Kada Stars beat Police Machine to retain title

Kada Stars hockey team of Kaduna on Saturday defeated Police Machine of Abuja 4-2 in the  0finals to retain the 2023 Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) Super League title.

The match was played  at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja.

Godwin Sunday opened scoring for Police Machine in the third minute through a penalty corner, but Kada Stars immediately fought back to equalize through Kish Victor, through a  field goal while  James Samaila scored their second goal in the 15th minute through penalty corner.

Samaila again scored  in the 29th minute through a penalty stroke while the Police MMachine pulled one back to make it 3-2  in the 32nd minute through Mohammed Inuwa  via a field goal to mark.

However, Kada’s Ibrahim Elkana made it 4-2 through a penalty corner in the 52 minute.

Kada stars had defeated Police machine 3-0 in 2021 and  2-1 in the 2022 super league to retain the title.

Speaking after the match0 , Nda-Baba Abdullahi, the head coach of Kada Stars said the team worked hard to earn the  victory .

“We worked hard to earn this victory and also our female team, Kada Queens, also clinched the title,” he said.

The coach said they are now focusing on the Africa Club Cup Championship (ACCC).

“We truly want to improve on our Africa rankings and on African continent tournament. With the quality of players we have and  their commitment, we hope to make it,“ he said.

NAN reports that both teams will represent Nigeria at the ACCC in November in Malawi.

In the women’s category, the champions Kada Queens and runners-up Delta Queens will represent Nigeria at the ACCC.

NAN reports that 20 teams participated in the Super League, nine in women category and 11 in the men category.

The competition began on July 29 ended on Aug. 5.
