Jigawa Anti-Corruption Commission Recovers N300M Looted Funds In 6 Months

The Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has recovered more than N300 million looted from public treasury by five former local government council chairmen and other bodies in the state.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the commission, Barrister Salisu Abdul while fielding questions in Dutse shortly after the opening of a sensitisation workshop for public office holders and civil servants in the state.
Abdul also said that the commission had received over 200 complaints in relation with finances and land matters in the one year of its establishment.
“Today, I will be proud to say that more 200 complaints within this limited period of time came to our office. Most of these cases had been resolved. I can say that 75 percent of the complaints had been resolved. That is an achievement.
“More so, from August last year to date, we have recovered N300 million public funds. It is also another milestone for the commission.
“We have done a lot of public enlightenment and awareness campaigns as parts of strategies for prevention of corrupt practices,” he added.
The chairman maintained that the commission has not deviated from its assigned responsibilities.
“We use settlement and resolutions which is the one of the methods approved by the law establishing the commission in resolving and treating cases we handle.
“During the period under review we invited five former local government councils chairmen, we invited serving ones, and so many others whom there were complaints against their local government councils,” he added.
On the workshop, Salisu said it was to enlight and sensitise the public and civil servants on the activities of the commission.
He said it was “for them to know what they are supposed to do and their boundaries. We don’t want a situation where we can be breaching their right in the process of doing our work”.
