Jigawa Govt Appreciates FCDO-Lafiya’s Support For Good Governance, Population Management

The Jigawa State Government has appreciated FCDO-Lafiya for its sustained support in strengthening governance, population management and human capital reforms across the state.
This was captured in the communique issued after the three-day workshop on Jigawa Demographic Dividend Roadmap, which was validated and will be presented to the state government for consideration.
“The workshop aimed to validate and refine the draft Demographic Dividend Roadmap and its indicator matrix, while ensuring that it reflects Jigawa’s culture, values and institutional context,” the communique stated.
The document provided Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound roadmap focused on job creation, skills development and economic growth, issues of high fertility, low education and employment, as well as child poverty.
It also provides clear roadmap to improve adolescent, maternal and child health outcomes, expand access to quality education, vocational training and entrepreneurship, strengthen policy coordination, monitoring and accountability mechanisms and promote gender equity, social inclusion and resilience.
The roadmap also captures key demographic and human capital indicators such as population projections, dependency ratios, fertility patterns, maternal health, child immunisation coverage, and education statistics, including attendance, completion and transition rates.
The communique emphasised continuous monitoring, reporting and collaboration between the government, FCDO-Lafiya and other development partners.
It also highlighted the need for sustained advocacy and public engagement to ensure effective implementation and lasting impact.
The participants agreed to submit the validated document to the State Executive Council for formal adoption and integration into sectoral and medium-term development plans.
They also agreed that there should be strong mechanisms for implementation, monitoring and reporting.
The workshop was chaired by Alhaji Sagir Muhammad Sani Kila and facilitated by the Lead Consultant, Dr. Musa Sani Zakirai.
It provided a participatory platform to align the roadmap with state development priorities, national frameworks and global demographic dividend principles, including the National Population Policy, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the State Development Plan.
Stakeholders in attendance included representatives of relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society Organisations, academia, traditional and religious leaders, the media and the National Population Commission, Jigawa State office.
The communiqué commended all participants for their active engagement, professionalism and commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development.
It also lauded the Lafiya Programme for its steadfast partnership and reaffirmed the state’s resolve to implement the roadmap.
