JUST IN: 14 Die in Jigawa Road Accident

No fewer than 14 people died on the spot in a fatal motor accident involving a Daf truck and Toyota Hiace along Kano-Babura road.
Report from the area indicated that the two vehicles collided, leading to the death of 14 passengers on the spot and four seriously injured.
Confirming with incident, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams said the DAF truck coming from Babura collided with the Toyota Hiace conveying traders from Kano heading to Kanya market in Babura local government area of the state.
According to him, the Toyota Hiace driver who was on high speed, tried to evade an immigration checkpoint by going off his lane.
“At the time the truck reached the Immigration check point, another vehicle, a Toyota Hiace with reg no. XA 381 GAS was also coming from Kano to Kanya market with overloading and at a high speed.
“The immigration officers stopped the Toyota Hiace but the driver refused to stop and attempted to get around the checkpoint by veering into the other lane. As a result, he collided head-on with the aforementioned Daf truck.
“Consequently, four passengers suffered severe injuries, and 14 passengers passed away instantly.”
He said that the injured passengers and corpses were evacuated to Kanya Babba Cottage Hospital.
