Kachia Residents Block Highway Over ‘Incessant’ Attacks

Residents of Ungwan Ate in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State took to the streets on Wednesday in protest against incessant attacks and abduction by armed groups.

The protesters, mostly youths, who blocked the Kachia-Kaduna road, decried the increasing wave of banditry in the area.

According to the residents, the latest attack was on Monday night when gunmen operated in the community for over two hours without any intervention from security forces, despite multiple distress calls.

They demanded to know why insecurity persists in Kachia local government area despite the high concentration of military and security formations there.

The protesters observed that in spite of the reported dialogue between government and bandits in the state, the security situation in the local government area has not improve.

They also lamented that the daily attacks have resulted in numerous deaths, kidnappings, and widespread fear.

“We have lost uncountable souls to these attacks,” a protester stated.

“Many of our people are in the bush, suffering for offences they know nothing about. We can no longer go to our farms, and sleeping peacefully at night is now impossible. Who is killing us?”

The demonstrators called on federal authorities and Kaduna State Government to take immediate action to address the security crisis in the area.
