Kano Govt cautions against APC’s Planned “Shadow Government”
Kano State Government has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against its planned forming of a Shadow Government in the state, describing it as “illegal, unconstitutional and a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant.”
This is contained in a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, on Sunday in Kano.
Wayya said the plan as announced by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the National Chairman of the APC Patriotic Volunteers, was a proof that the APC wanted to create chaos in the state.
He said that such actions could have serious legal and social implications.
“Let me remind these elements within the Kano APC that, in a democratic system like ours, forming a government within a government is entirely illegal and unconstitutional.
“A shadow government, as practised in the United Kingdom, exists within a parliamentary system where opposition parties appoint ‘shadow ministers’ to scrutinize the ruling government.
“However, Nigeria operates a presidential system, which neither recognizes nor supports such a structure outside the institutional framework of the law,” he said.
He said that the State Government would not tolerate any actions aimed at destabilizing the state.
“Contemplating the formation of a shadow government is further proof of the APC’s continued plot to create chaos in Kano.
“Such actions will not be tolerated, and the government stands ready to take decisive action against any individual or groups involved in acts capable of disturbing the relative peace in the state,” the commissioner added.
