Kano Govt makes u-turn, dismember Kano Emirate
Kano State House of Assembly has again dismembered Kano Emirate by creating three new emirates out of it.
At its sitting on Tuesday, the Assembly approved the creation of Rano, Gaya and Karaye Emirates, three of the four emirates scrapped less than three months ago by the Assembly. The only Emirate missing was that of Bichi.
The abrogation of the four emirates is currently being contested in law courts.
In a move to wriggle out of the political miscalculation of the scrapping the emirates, the state government has now made a u-turn by setting up the three emirate councils, whose Emirs will have Second Class status.
According to the law passed by the Assembly, Rano Emirate will cover Rano, Bunkure and Kibiya local government areas; Karaye Emirate will cover Karaye and Rogo, while Gaya Emirate will consist of Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu.
