Kano Govt plans houses for flood victims

The Kano State Government says it plans to build free and affordable houses for victims of flood disasters across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
Gov. Abba Yusuf said this at the state weekl Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Kano.
Malam Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for the governor, stated this in a statement on Thursday in Kano.
Bature said the gesture was to mitigate the effects of flooding in the state.
He quoted the governor as stating that the provision of the houses would significantly assist the flood victims to secure suitable shelter for their families.
He also said that the state government was collaborating with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to support flood victims with foodstuff and other essential items.
The governor also said that the government plans to distribute chairs and desks in the first phase to 220,000 secondary school students and primary school pupils to improve the teaching and learning environment.

He expressed delight at the smooth resumption of the 2024/2025 academic session in some rehabilitated schools and assured that the government would ensure the rehabilitation of all existing schools in the state.

Yusuf said in line with the components of the Declaration of Emergency on Education in the state, the government would distribute free uniforms to all primary 1 pupils and urged all stakeholders to work together to achieve the state’s educational goals.
