Kano Govt reassures on completion of N27m interchange bridges
The Kano State Government has reassured that it will take necessary steps to fast-track the completion of the N27 billion interchange bridges sited in the state capital.
The state’s Commissioner for Works and Housing, Alhaji Marwan Ahmad, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.
Ahmad said that a 24-hour work was being embarked upon to fast track the completion of the projects which were the three-layer interchange bridges being constructed at Dan’agundi junction and a clover leaf overpass bridge being sited at Tal’udu roundabout.
He said that the ministry had already introduced measures to extend the construction of the bridges to night hours in order to achieve the objective.
To this end, Ahmad said,lighting devices were being installed and wired at the construction sites so as to introduce night shifts to enable the workers operate in the night.
He said work had reached 40 percent completion at the Tal’udu site,as well as 20 percent completion at the Dan’agundi area.
The commissioner assured that the two projects would be completed in 2025 in accordance with the government’s plans.
“We are on top of the situation and we are working hard to beat the deadline.”
He said alternative routes had been created around the two interchange bridges in order to ease movement of vehicles passing through the areas.
He also stated that adequate information about the alternative routes had been disseminated to motorists to ensure free flow of traffic in the affected areas.
Ahmed urged motorists and the people dwelling areas around the construction sites to exercise more patience and cooperate with government during the execution of the projects.
He also urged them to report any hitches regarding the movement of vehicles in the affected sites to enable government respond promptly.
It will be recalled that Gov. Abba Yusuf while laying the foundation of the two bridges, said the major projects were initiated to reduce traffic congestion, ease travel, beautify the city, control pollution, and develop infrastructure in the ancient city.
