Kano Govt set to establish League of Veteran Journalists
The Kano State Government has received the report of its Committee on the establishment of the State League of Veteran Journalists, towards harnessing the wealth of experience of veteran media practitioners in the development of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for for Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya received the report on behalf of Gov. Abba Yusuf in Kano.
Waiya commended the committee for its dedication and commitment in developing the document, describing it as a major step towards strengthening professionalism and unity among veteran journalists in the state.
He added that the draft charter, when adopted, would serve as a guiding framework for the activities and operations of the Kano League of Veteran Journalists, aimed at promoting ethical journalism and mentorship for younger practitioners.
Waiya said that the presentation marked a major step toward formalizing the league, which aimed at promoting professional ethics, mentorship, and collaboration among veteran journalists in the state.
He said that league would serve as a credible body to assist governance in, (i)mentoring and uplifting present and upcoming generation of journalist in the state,(ii) promoting, preserving and safeguarding the ethics and integrity of the profession,(iii) Helping to enhance citizens trust in public communication etc
Members of the committee included Prof. Umar Faruk, Alhaji Muhammad Danyaro, Dr. Halima Musa Kamilu, Associate Prof. Sule Ya’u Sule, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, Hauwa Sulaiman Zaharaddeen, and Mustapha Gambo Muhammad.
Dr. Aminu Umar served as the committee’s secretary, while Aminu Ahmad chaired the committee.
