KASU Lecturers Suspend Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kaduna State University chapter, has announced the immediate suspension of the ongoing indefinite strike embarked upon by members over withheld salaries and allowances, and other welfare issues.
A statement on Sunday by the ASUU branch chairman, Dr Adam Peters said the resumption of academic activities was ratified by the congress at a meeting on Saturday.
He said that Kaduna State Government has released money for the 60% withheld salaries for September 2017, and SIWESS for five sessions.
Peters stated that the government has also pegged timeline for the paymeny of Earned Academic Allowance, May to September 2022 withheld salaries, pension remittance for 2009 to 2019, and other issues.
He explained that the immediate suspension of the strike was in response to the tremendous goodwill shown by Governor Uba Sani, adding that both ASUU and the state government will sign the agreement later.
The union appreciated the governor for the swift response to their demands, saying it was a marked departure from the past when labour union members were victimised by government for joining lawful strikes.
