Katsina Inaugurates Household Survey To Aid Policy Making
Katsina State Government has inaugurated a comprehensive General Household Survey designed to provide insights into living conditions across the state to aid policy making and interventions by government and development partners.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda inaugurated the survey on Monday, together with the State Consultative Committee on Statistics.
He said comprehensive data collection will directly impact programmes aimed at transforming citizens’ lives, adding that since assuming office, the administration has prioritised programmes that elevate the living standards of the people.
“This survey will ensure that our development initiatives reach every corner of Katsina State, leaving no one behind,” the governor added.
He directed ministries, departments and agencies to henceforth coordinate all statistical exercises with the state Bureau for Statistics, so as to have a unified approach to data collection.
He urged the enumerators to maintain the highest standards of integrity in the discharge of their responsibility, saying the work they were given has critical role to play in shaping government policies and the development and growth of the state.
Earlier, the Director General, Bureau of Statistics, Saifullahi Sani Matazu, said the bureau has received substantial government funding, and was equipped with modern ICT facilities to effectively carry out its duties.
He particularly said that the personnel selected for the survey have been well trained to provide accurate and comprehensive data of households in the state.
Matazu said they will collaborate with UNICEF, World Bank, and other partners to achieve the desired objective.
A representative of UNICEF Kano Field Office, Hajiya Fatima, spoke on the broader implications and advantages of accurate data to planning for societal development.
