Katsina To Dole Out N9bn Grains During Ramadan – Deputy Governor

Katsina State Government has procured grains worth N9 billion for distribution to residents during the Ramadan fasting expected to begin from March 1, 2025.

The State Deputy Governor, Malam Lawal Jobe announced this during the stakeholders meeting All Progressives Congress in the state, convened to garner support ahead of the local government election slated for February 15.

He revealed that the state government has already stockpiled substantial quantities of millet, guinea corn, and maize, strategically positioned for timely distribution to citizens.

According to the deputy governor, the state has concretised arrangements to procure fertiliser between now and March for timely distribution to wet season farmers. He did not however disclose the number of tonnes to be procured by the government.

In 2024, about 400,000 bags of assorted fertiliser were sold to farmers at subsidised rate.

“This initiative aims to ensure farmers receive critical agricultural inputs before the commencement of the rainy season, thereby supporting agricultural productivity and food sustainability,” Lawal said.

Meanwhile, in a speech during the stakeholders meeting attended by key party figures including former President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Dikko Radda assured that the election will be transparent and “reflect the true will of the people”.

He said they would focus on transparent, inclusive, and democratic processes that strengthen collective democratic experience.

On his part, Buhari reminded leaders of the need to imbibe the principles of  transparency and accountability at all times, in order to remain politically relevant.
