Katsina to host national climate change awareness campaign

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has agreed to host a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at promoting climate resilience, environmental sustainability, green growth, and greater public awareness of climate change issues.

The event, scheduled to be held in Katsina in July 2026, is coming under the umbrella of the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT).

It seeks to take climate change awareness beyond policy discussions and conference halls to the grassroots, reaching communities, markets, schools, farmers, women, and young people.

The initiative is also designed to encourage practical actions that will help communities adapt to climate challenges while supporting sustainable development across Nigeria.

Governor Radda said climate change remains a major concern, particularly for states like Katsina where agriculture serves as the backbone of the economy.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote environmental protection, sustainable farming practices, tree planting, and community engagement on climate-related issues.

Speaking on preparations for the event, the Katsina State Focal Person for REHCCAT, Suleiman Ribadu explained that a major town hall meeting will be held in Katsina to bring together government officials, development partners, traditional leaders, farmers, youth groups, women organisations, and other stakeholders to discuss practical solutions to climate challenges affecting local communities.

Ribadu commended Governor Radda for identifying with the project and agreeing to host the programme.

He said preparations were in top gear to ensure the success of the event, adding that the governor’s support reflects his deep commitment to initiatives that improve the lives of citizens and promote a safer and more sustainable environment for future generations.
