Lakurawa launch fresh attack on Kebbi community, kill 28 in 2 weeks
A group of Lakurawa terrorists have attacked Morai village in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Sunday, killing at least 13 vigilance group members.
The assault took place as the vigilantes attempted to thwart a cattle rustling operation by the attackers.
A reliable local source said hat the vigilantes had taken cover after receiving intelligence about an impending terrorist strike.
“Unfortunately, they were unaware that the terrorists had already surrounded them, and as soon as the vigilantes moved to intercept, the attackers opened fire, killing at least 13 of them on the spot,”
However, only six bodies were recovered and buried, as residents search for the remaining corpses.
On Monday morning, Governor Nasir Idris left Birnin Kebbi for Morai village to commiserate with the community.
It is the second major attack by the terrorists in two weeks after the killing of their leader, Maigemu, by security forces.
The terrorist group had launched a reprisal attack on Birnin Dede village, killing 13 people and setting ablaze eight communities in Arewa local government area of the state.
According to a survivor from Dede community Malam Umar, the assailants attacked unexpectedly in the late hours of the night.
The Lakurawa terrorists have recently killed two officers of the Nigerian Customs Service
