Lamido faults Jigawa govt on handling of flood disaster

The 2023 Jigawa state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Mustapha Sule Lamido has faulted the response of the state government to the flood alert earlier issued by the National Metrological Agency (NiMet).
He told newsmen during a sympathy visit to Miga, Jahun, Kiyawa and Buji local government areas that the government did not make adequate preparations to avert the flood.
“It is very sad and disheartening that over 30 people died across the state and about 10, 000 house and hundreds thousands hectares of farmlands destroyed. This is really touching”.
“I’m surprised with the devastating experienced in this state despite the information at the government hands on the disaster’s prediction by the National Metrological Agency (NiMet), but no serious measures were taken and now see the results”.
“There’s an intentional neglect from the government of the state for allowing the flood to happen despite present scientific ideas and technologies,” he said.
Mustapha sympathized with the victims and offered a prepared document for flood prevention and control to avert future occurrence.
“I have a prepared document that an expert developed for me which is contained in my blueprint policies and agendas I presented during my campaign in 2023 election. In the document there is modern techniques and process to prevent and control the flood and other environmental problems such as desertification, erosion and typha grass”.
According to him, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in camps set up by the government are properly taken care of.
“You are witnesses to how victims are neglected by the government. No food, no sufficient water to use. See how they are exposed to danger of contracting diseases. No adequate mosquito net, no laterines. Have you seen any medical personnel or facility in any of the IDP camps we visited? Is that how government is supposed to handle people who found themselves in calamity? No it is not”.
“Apart from donation we presented, i have added some assistance to the camps because of the situation I found them. You heard by yourselves how the victims were complaining,” Mustapha added.
“I’m advising His Excellency, the Governor to go and see by himself the places and conditions of the victims more especially those in IDP camps. He should no rely on the reports he is recieving in office”.
