Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza Strip, announced on Wednesday that the hospital is going out of service due to fuel depletion.
He also mentioned that four children have died in recent days due to malnutrition and dehydration.
Abu Safiya warned in a press conference that the hospital’s shutdown would deprive hundreds of thousands of their right to access medical services, guaranteed by international laws.
He explained that the hospital administration, with limited resources and supplies, managed to reopen the hospital after it was targeted in previous Israeli attacks.
He added the administration’s appeal to international institutions to provide the hospital with the necessary fuel and medicine, received no response.
Abu Safiya urged all international institutions to intervene urgently and provide the necessary fuel and medical supplies to save the lives of patients and the injured.
He emphasized that the hospital is the only lifeline for the people in northern Gaza, especially after the Al-Awda Hospital announced its closure on Tuesday.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health described the health situation in northern Gaza Strip as “extremely catastrophic” and beyond description, because of the ongoing Israeli blockade since October 7, 2023.
The ministry explained that hospitals are without fuel and medicine refrigerators are without electricity, posing a threat to sensitive medications. In addition, dozens of ambulances, civil defence vehicles, and medical services are out of service due to lack of fuel.
These are coming midst a severe and suffocating siege imposed by the Israeli occupation army on northern Gaza Strip, preventing the means and essentials of life for about 700,000 Palestinians who remain steadfast in their homes and have refused the Israeli threats and orders to evacuate to the south.
