Local Council Chairman Empowers 100 Watermelon Farmers in Jigawa

The Chairman of Gwaram local government council in Jigawa State,  Professor Salim Abdurraman has supported 100 watermelon farmers with inputs as part of the council ‘s empowerment programme.

“We are committed to do everything possible within the law to empower and support our people through agriculture,” the chairman said while distributing the inputs in Gwaram.

He said that the beneficiaries were drawn from the 11 political wards of the local government area.

Professor Salim said that the inputs included 100 bags of NPK and Urea fertilisers, 200 liters of Herbicide, 200 liters of insecticide, improved seedlings and sprayers.

“As you can see each farmer would receive one bag of NPK and Urea fertilizer, one liter of Pesticide and Herbicide and one sprayer. This is free of charge from the government as support to improve your farming business and economic status,” he added.

According to the chairman, the local authority will also support dry season rice farmers to enhance food security and curtail rural-urban migration.

Professor Salim urged the beneficiaries to make very good use of the opportunity, and appealed to other categories of farmers to exercise patient,  assuring that the local council would extend similar support to them soon.
