Market Fire: Gov. Buni directs SEMA to take stock of damages

Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to take stock of the damages caused by the early morning fire outbreak at Bayan Tasha market in Damaturu.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.

He described the incident as sad and unfortunate at this challenging moment of ecomomic hardship.

“This fire incident is sad, most unfortunate and ill timed considering the economic hardship faced by the people.

“l have directed the State Emergency Management Agency to take stock of the number of shops, traders affected and the estimated value of loss.”

The Governor consoled the victims saying “as faithfuls, nothing happens to a believer except with the knowledge of our creator”.

He prayed to Allah (SWT) against future occurances and to replenish what was lost.

Buni advised the people to always take proactive measures against fire outbreaks especially in the present harmattan season.

“We have had very sad experiences of fire outbreaks in the past in homes, shops and other places of work, we should adopt measures against fire outbreaks to safeguard lives and property,” he added.

He directed the state Fire Service Department to always be on standby to respond timely and effectively to any fire outbreak.
