Media group urges traditional, religious leaders to support child spacing in Yobe

The Childbirth Spacing Media Team in Yobe State has called for more support from traditional, religious and community leaders for child spacing practices in the state.
In a message to mark the International Safe Motherhood Day, the Publicity Secretary of the group, Ahmed Isah Abba said stakeholders must deepen engagement with the local leaders and raise awareness safe childbirth spacing practices.
The group said it was important to prioritise women’s long-term well-being, which safe child spacing guarantees.
According to the statement, the Safe Motherhood Day set aside by the World Health Organisation (WHO) is marked on April 11 very year to create awareness of women’s health conditions.
The media team said, working with The Challenge Initiative, TCI, it has been able to increase acceptability of family planning even among the rural women who were encouraged by the availability of consumables at various health facilities.
It explained that the Safe Motherhood Day provided opportunities for women to receive the care needed to be safe and healthy throughout the period of their pregnancies and child births, including antenatal, postnatal and mental health.
“The childbirth spacing advocacy media team praises the giant strides recorded by the state government in primary, secondary and tertiary health systems, and for providing enabling environment that improves health indicators across board.
According to the group, it has contributed to the successes through partnerships with nongovernmental ganisations, including the Challenge Initiative, which has accelerating positive health outcomes in the state.
