MNJTF nabs terrorists’ courier in Borno
Troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector 3 in Monguno, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a 28-year-old terrorists courier, Muktar Alhaji Chari on Thursday.
The suspect was apprehended conveying materials believed to be used in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
He was nabbed at the entrance of Gubio Local Government Area during a significant counter-terrorism operation.
A statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, confirmed the arrest.
He disclosed that the suspect confessed to transporting the materials to Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, where they were intended for a planned attack on MNJTF troops.
The intercepted items included four empty 12kg cylinders, one empty 6kg cylinder, two carburetor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose.
Osoba said, “Intelligence reports indicated that this material was intended for a group of terrorists planning a retaliatory attack following recent losses, including the elimination of several members and the seizure of a significant weapons cache.
“The timely interception of this courier and the recovery of these materials have effectively disrupted a potential terrorist attack and dealt a significant blow to the operational capabilities of the terrorist group.”
He added that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with further investigation.
The Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Ali has commended the troops and CJTF for their vigilance and professionalism.
He reiterated MNJTF’s resolve to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
