Namadi Receives Award For Curving GBV In Jigawa

A group, Standup Women Society, has presented an award to Governor Umar Namadi for curving Gender Based Violence and promoting women inclusiveness in Jigawa State.
The Syndicate reports that the governor received the award in Dutse on Wednesday.
The International President of Standup Women Society, Deborah Ijadele-Adetona, represented by Timinepere Jombo Idoko, added that Namadi was recognised for his administration’s commitment to uplifting the social and economical standards of women in Jigawa state.
She said that the group reviewed the governor’s “policies on women empowerment, action on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and appointment of women in government”, before agreeing to honour him.
“Jigawa state government initiatives have witnessed many women breaking the glass ceiling and becoming economically self-sufficient.
“The governor’s commitment to gender equity, equality and inclusiveness is commendable. Any sensitive women organisation can’t ignore his positive changes in women and girls’ child lives.
“It is also worthy of emulation by any responsible government in the country and beyond,” she said.
Ijadele-Adetona thanked the governor for being gender-sensitive and ensuring that the policy thrust of his administration gives women the leverage to aspire and be productive.
She explained that SWS is in the forefront of advocacies for gender parity, promotion of the rights of women and the girl-child and the entrenchment of intrinsic family values to help family institutions grow, stabilize and progress.
Responding, governor Namadi expressed appreciation and gratitude for the honour and recognition of the modest achievements of his administration, especially the projects and programmes affecting women and girls.
The governor said the intervention was in line with the national policy on gender, introduced to address the challenges faced by women and children.
Namadi explained that free education policy for the girl child, women empowerment, safe delivery of nursing mothers, and others, were parts of the state government’s 12 point agenda.
