NERC triples electricity tariff amidst low power supply

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says it has approved increase of electricity tariff by 0ver 300 per cent in spite of epileptic power supply nationwide.

The commission, however, said that the new tariff would affect Band A customers who enjoy electricity supply for 20 hours per day.

Mr Musliu Oseni, Vice Chairman, Market Competitions and Rates of the NERC  said this at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja that such customers would now pay from N225KWh from the current tariff of N68/KWh.

Oseni said the Band A customers represent 15 percent of the 12 million electricity customers in the country.

According to him, the commission has also downgraded some customers on Band A to Band C due to non-fulfillment of the required hours of electricity provided by Electricity Distribution Companies.
