Senator calls for urgent action against rising food prices in Nigeria

Sen. Babangida Husaini (APC- Jigawa) has called on governments at all levels to put in place mechanisms to address rising cost of food items in Nigeria,.
Husaini stated this in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Kano.
“I have observed that the cost of basic food items is rising astronomically across the rural communities in the Northern States and other parts of the country.
“This trend and its attendant economic burden on the people are quite alarming, especially at the start of the harvest season when food crops are expected to be sold at affordable prices.
“It is most unfortunate that insecurity, banditry and other nefarious activities of criminals in most of the food-producing areas, among other factors, have contributed to the rising food prices and food insecurity in the nation.
“The ugly trend needs to be checked immediately before things get completely out of hand, as it poses serious threat to our national food security and stability as a nation,” he said.
Husaini, also the chairman Senate Committee on FERMA, called on the Federal, State and local gvernment councils, as well as all relevant stakeholders to take immediate strategic actions to avert this palpable danger and ameliorate the situation in the overall interest of the nation.

He, however, appealed to all Nigerians to continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at putting the nation back on track for sustainable economic growth and long-term prosperity.
