Nigeria’s Polo legend, Dawule Baba dies at 66
Nigeria’s foremost polo player, Dawule Baba, has died at the age of 66 at a hospital in Egypt.
In a condolence message, Katsina Polo Club expressed deep sorrow on the passing of the “legendary pillar of Nigerian Polo.”
“Alhaji Dawule Baba was not only a towering personality in the Polo, but also a source of inspiration, mentorship, and pride for the entire Polo community in Nigeria and beyond.
“The Polo Professor as he was fondly called, has left a vacuum that is difficult to fill. His contributions to the game have left an indelible mark on the history of Polo in Nigeria.
“Katsina Polo Club extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends, teammates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“May Almighty Allah SWT grant his soul eternal rest and give his loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the club said in a statement signed by Alhaji Muhammadu Usman Sarki.
Dawule was born in Maiduguri Borno state on 24th February, 1959. He began playing polo in Ibadan as a student, and later joined Dantata when he started professional polo in 1982. He also joined Allied Ranch, Kaduna and several other clubs before setting his own team, Deebe farms.
A handicap plus five from 1988 to 1998, Dawule had uncountable number of trophies to his name.
