NIS places offices on red alert following Niger jailbreak

The Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS) has placed its officers on red alert following last week’s jailbreak in Koutoukale Prison in the neighbouring Niger Republic in which hundreds of terrorists, criminals and drug traffickers escaped from custody.
This is contained in a circular by Mr MC Dike, the Deputy Comptroller-General, NIS, on behalf of the Comptroller- General on Sunday in Abuja.
Dike urged all comptrollers of commands on all Nigerian borders to be on alert and put in place mechanism that would prevent the escapees from crossing into the country.
“All officers on the Nigerian border with the Niger Republic are expected to increase their vigilance and partner with sister security agencies in tracking the fleeing criminals,” he said. Ends
