North East Governors Pledge Support For Successful 2025 Hajj Operation
The Chairman of North East Governors’ Forum, Professor Umara Zulum, has pledged support to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to conduct seamless 2025 Hajj operation.
Zulum, who is also the Governor of Borno State, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the management of NAHCON at the Hajj House in Abuja.
Zulum said that the outcome of the discussions would be relayed to governors of the region, especially in ensuring timely payments and completion of all necessary requirements.
He emphasised the importance of effectively managing the number of intending pilgrims to ensure the smooth conduct of the Hajj.
“What matters is not the number of individuals who will perform the 2025 Hajj, but the efficiency and meticulousness with which those who have paid will carry out the exercise,” the chairman of the North East forum said.
Zulum commended the federal government’s unwavering support to the Hajj Commission since the beginning of the current administration.
Acknowledging the challenges involved in conducting a smooth Hajj operation, the NEGF chairman expressed the belief that the commitment and support of all stakeholders will lead to successful 2025 Hajj.
“I am aware of the challenges we faced last year, but I believe most of them have been addressed. Organising a flawless Hajj operation is no easy task, but I believe that with dedication, support, and an open-minded approach, all issues can be resolved,” he added.
Zulum identified some of the difficulties encountered during the 2024 Hajj to include inadequate arrangements for VIPs and overbooking, which led to the overstretching of facilities in Mina and Arafah.
He urged the Commission to embark on social reorientation for state governments and intending pilgrims, ensuring they are well-informed and updated on arrangements and activities before and during the Hajj.
In a remark, the Chairman of NAHCON, Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman, informed Governor Zulum that the Commission had already secured space for 52,000 pilgrims in Mina and Arafah, reasonable allocation for VIPs and an additional 15,000 spaces for private tour operators.
Professor Abubakar expressed appreciation to Zulum for the visit and his continued support to the Commission.
