NUT honours Yusuf as Teachers’ Friendly governor

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has honoured Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, as Teachers’ Friendly Governor, for his numerous efforts in enhancing the welfare of teachers in the state.
Comrade Baffa Ibrahim, the State NUT Chairman, stated this at the 2025 World Teachers Day Celebration in Kano on Sunday.
Ibrahim said that Yusuf had proven to be most teacher friendly governor by implementing policies and programmes that had impacted positively on the lives of teachers in the state.
He described the theme for the 2025 celebration as timely both in the state and Nigeria at large.
“With gratitude to Almighty Allah, I stand before you today on behalf of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Kano State Wing and on behalf of Kano State teachers to welcome you all to this year’s World Teachers Day 2025.
“This is a day set aside globally to appreciate and celebrate the invaluable role of teachers as nation builders , moulders character and custodians of knowledge.
“The theme for this year’s celebration “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession ” is timely and deeply relevant in our context in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
“Teaching is not seen as an isolated responsibility placed on the shoulders of individual teachers, but as a collective enterprise that requires collaboration among teachers, government communities, parents and other stakeholders,” he said.
Ibrahim said that teachers had great role to play in the development of nations.
“When teachers collaborate, they inspire innovation, share experiences and build stronger foundations for students.
“When government collaborates with teachers, it results in policies that improve welfare and strengthen the education system. And when communities and parents collaborate with schools, the child who is the receiver of all our efforts, receives the full benefits of inclusive and quality education,” he said.
He called for more collaborative efforts toward taking education to a greater heights in the state.
“Your Excellency, it is on note that we sincerely commend your administration for the following laudable achievements in the education sector which resonate with the spirit of collaboration.
“Regular and timely payments of teachers salaries which has given the teachers hope and peace of mind to focus on their duties. Kano teachers are now calm and have all trust of government in their minds.
“Implementation of promotions as at when due, which has boosted the morale of primary and secondary schools teachers in the state.
“Massive recruitment of teachers for both basic and post basic education thereby addressing shortages and enhancing delivery of education,” Ibrahim said.
He also appealed to the governor to implement the 2025 promotion for both primary and secondary schools teachers in the state.
“Finally, while we acknowledge these achievements, we also humbly present the following prayers to his Excellency for the continued uplifting of education in Kano State.
“Implementation of the 2025 promotion for both basic and post basic teachers in the state.
“Revisiting schools upkeep funds to schools operate smoothly and effectively, as well as bridging the salary gap between primary and secondary schools teachers in the state
“We also appeal for the inclusion of NUT representatives on the Pension Board Committee to safeguard the interest of teachers in the state,” Ibrahim said.
Speaking, the governor expressed delight over the honour by the union, promising to ensure improved funding for the education sector toward achieving the desired goals.
Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, said the government had recorded numerous achievements in its two years in office in the education sector.
