Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is angry with the open invitation extended to him by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to tour its refineries in Port Harcourt and Warri.

The NNPCL extended the invitation following Obasanjo’s public criticism of the company’s handling of the refineries.

The former president had in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, recounted failed efforts to privatise oil plants in the country, and the mismanagement of the refineries by NNPCL since 2007.

Obasanjo, through his spokesperson, Kehinde Akinyemi, described the method of the invitation as disrespectful.

According to him, the oil company ought to have sent a formal invitation instead of issuing a statement.

“It is a total disrespect for the office of the former president.

“Ask the NNPCL that as of January 2, have they written to him? Is there any official letter addressed to him, inviting him to the refinery? It is an absolute insult, and the former president cannot dignify such with a response,” Akinyemi added.
