PDP re-elect El-Gash as chairman in Yobe

Delegates at the state congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe state have re-elected Amb. Umar El-Gash, as the state chairman of the party.
The congress was held on Saturday at the 27 August Stadium, Damaturu, the state capital.
In his acceptance speech, El-Gash expressed strong confidence that the PDP would defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.
“Having won the last state elections, we believe momentum is with us, and we are positioned to win not just at the presidential level but also across governorship and legislative elections,” he said.
He criticized the APC administration, citing worsening insecurity, rising inflation, and economic hardship as key reasons Nigerians are eager for change.
“The current administration under the APC has failed to meet its campaign promises,” he said.
“People are struggling—many can barely afford two meals a day. Nigerians are watching closely and waiting for the next opportunity to make a decisive change.
“A collective affirmation of the people’s faith in the PDP, thanking members for their loyalty.”
He highlighted the party’s historic 2023 victory, where it won the presidential vote in Yobe for the first time and secured legislative seats.
“This could not have been possible without your unwavering support.”
The chairman praised the PDP’s acting national chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum for uniting the party and providing a credible alternative for Nigerians.
He promised an inclusive administration focused on empowering women, youths, and grassroots structures.
“Our doors will remain open, our ears attentive, and our hearts committed to fairness and inclusion,” El-Gash assured party members.
When asked how the PDP would differ from the APC in governance, El-Gash urged Nigerians to compare economic conditions under both parties.
“The APC has been in power for years, yet challenges have only deepened,” he pointed out, and criticized APC’s infrastructure and development records, calling it inferior to past PDP administrations.
“Anyone traveling across Nigeria—especially to states like Borno—can see the glaring difference in achievements,” he added.
He urged members of the party to unite, declaring, “The PDP in Yobe is not merely an opposition party. We are the alternative that Yobe deserves.”
