Police arrest 3 in possession of fake currencies worth N129bn in Kano
The police command in Kano State has arrested three persons who were allegedly in possession of counterfeit currencies worth N129 billion.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna said this at a news conference on Tuesday in Kano.
He said the counterfeit money included US dollars, CFA franc and naira notes.
“Counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of One Hundred and Twenty-nine Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-two Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty-three Thousand Naira (N129 billion) were recovered,” Kiyawa said.
He said that the fake currencies included 3,366,000 dollars CFA51,970,000 and N1,443,000.
Haruna said that two suspects were arrested with the currencies, saying however, that the third suspect was believed to be the owner of some of the currencies, which were stolen from him from the two suspects.
He said that the were in police custody assisting the police with the investigation of the actual producers of the counterfeit money.
Haruna said the command had also recovered six live ammunition, three tricycles, eight motorcycles and three parcels of 175 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The police spokesperson said that the command had also recovered 250 pieces of diazepam tablets, 278 sheep and seven cattle as part of recoveries by its operatives.
“These approaches have resulted not only to apprehension of criminals but also deter potential offenders from engaging in criminal activities.
“Major cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, thuggery and drug dealings have been surmounted,” Haruna said.
