Kano Govt pledges support for NAWOJ in fight against GBV
The Kano State Government has pledged to support the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
The Special Adviser on Special Assignment to Gov. Abba Yusuf , Hajiya Fatima Abubakar said this on Monday at a Town Hall meeting on GBV organized by NAWOJ in collaboration with the office of the SA.
Abubakar, who appreciated NAWOJ for its effort in the fight against the menace, promised sustained collaboration with a view to achieving the desired objectives.
Also speaking, the State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Bahijja Malam Kabara said the event was aimed at sensitizing the public on the dangers associated with GBV in the society.
She said the event was also organized by the association in order to join the rest of the world in marking the 16 days activism of Gender Based Violence.
Kabara said the association remained steadfast in the fight for the rights of women and children against any social vices in the society.
Bahijja also called on parents to inculcate moral values in their children and monitor their daily activities so as to ensure proper upbringing of the children for the betterment of the society.
In his remark, the chairman of the Correspondent Chapter of the state Chapel of the NUJ, Mr Aminu Garko urged NAWOJ to come up with a program that would enlighten women on proper upbringing of children.
He stressed the need for a massive awareness campaign against the GBV especially in Northern parts of the country.
