Police Arrest Notorious Bandit On The Run For 11 Years in Kaduna
The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr Muhammad Rabiu, has announced the arrest of a notorious bandits leader who has been on the run for 11 years.
The Syndicate reports that the notorious bandits leader, Mati Bagio, was arrested on July 18, 2025 in a village in Shika district of Giwa Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner said before his arrest, Bagio was actively involved in terrorising communities in parts of Kaduna and Katsina states.
He told journalists in Katsina while giving a breakdown of the successes recorded by the Command in July 2025, that an English type AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated one, two pistols and magazine, as well as one pump action gun in addition to assorted ammunition were recovered from the bandit.
Muhammad also said that the Command had within the month of July, apprehended 456 suspects for various offences.
He said out of the number, 382 were members of armed street gangs involved in phone snatching and thuggery, while 25 were arrested over alleged kidnapping, 17 for armed robbery, and one for impersonating governors, ministers and senior government officials and other personalities.
According to the police commissioner, 34 suspects were also nabbed in connection with the diversion of 9 trailers, 3 trucks of fertilizers, 2 trucks of sugar, 3 trucks of flour and two trucks of maize.
He said a total of 18 AK-47 Rifles, 5 Pistols, 1 Pump Action Gun, 8 AK-47 Magazines, 20 AK-47 Ammunition, 87 Pistol Ammunition, and 36 cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Muhammad said five stolen cars, which included 3 Golf III Wagons, one Toyota Prado Jeep, and one Toyota Corolla linked to a cross-border robbery, were recovered within the period.
This, he said, was in addition to 5 Stolen Motorcycles, 54 Mobile Phones, 23 SIM Cards, and numerous diaries and contact lists of high-ranking public officers.
Giving further breakdown, the Commissioner of Police gave the name of the suspected impersonator as Aminu Ado Yarima, 59, who was apprehended on July 19 in Nasarawa State.
“The suspect had impersonated several high-profile figures, including governors, federal agency heads, and security officials. Recovered exhibits included multiple phones, SIM cards, and notebooks containing sensitive contacts.”
He also said that the Command had intercepted an illegal arm on 23rd July 2025 at about 1800hrs being transported to Zamfara State.
“Acting on credible intelligence, a team of detectives, intercepted a suspicious waybill in Kaduna. The consignment transported from Jos, was destined to Gusau, Zamfara State, it contained a fabricated AK-47 rifle concealed in a sack.
“The operatives follow-up and arrested two suspects in Gusau who had arrived to receive the illegal firearm.The suspects have been identified as Abdulmumin Sani, and Naziru Musa.
He also gave the names of the six suspected kidnappers arrested as
Hussaini Ibrahim, Umar Yusuf Jabrin, Buhari Muhammad alias General, Ahmadu Nasiru, and Zakari Saleh, with 4 AK-47 rifles found on them.
He assured people of Kaduna State of the Police Command’s full commitment to the safety and security of all.
“We call on the members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”
