Police Neutralise 7 Terrorists, Recover 23 Guns
The Force Headquarters said on Sunday that police operatives have recovered seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action guns, and hundreds of assorted live ammunition from IPOB/ESN terrorists in Ezioha Mbaitolu, Umuele Umuaka Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.
The police said in a follow-up operation in Nkwukwo Forest, three terrorist kingpins were neutralised while two AK47 rifles each loaded with 36 rounds of live ammunition, one pump-action gun, one cutlass, four motorcycles, and charms were recovered.
Meanwhile, 60-year-old Umaru Bawa who was abducted from his home in Gobiraje village, Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has been rescued and the N3 million paid as ransom were recovered.
The kidnappers were trailed to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis of the state, and in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, four of the kidnappers were killed and one was injured.
“These operations not only reflect the commitment of the Force to maintaining law and order but also show the determination to dismantle criminal networks that threaten the safety of citizens,” ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer said in a statement.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the brave efforts of the operatives involved and emphasized the need for continued vigilance in the fight against crime.
“The Force assures members of the public that these operations will continue with renewed vigour to ensure a safer environment for all Nigerians.”
The police called for increased intelligence and prompt reporting of suspicious activities by citizens.
