Police to partner communities to prevent kidnapping in Kano 
The police command in Kano State says it plans to partner with local communities and neighboring states to prevent and respond to kidnapping on the borders of the state.
The State’s newly-appointed Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Bakori, said this while addressing officers and men of the command at the Police Officers Mess, Bompai, Kano, on Wednesday.
Bakori said the command would also enhance its intelligence gathering capabilities to achieve the objective.
“We will increase patrols along our borders to prevent and respond to kidnapping incidents and other cross-border crimes.
“We will foster strong partnerships with local communities, building trust and collaboration to prevent and resolve conflicts.
“Having obtained briefs from my predecessor, AIG Salman Dogo Garba, and the command’s management team, the crime pattern in the state was carefully studied and analyzed,” he said.
Based on the assessment,the commissioner said, the issues to be tackled include: thuggery, drug abuse, domestic violence and kidnapping along border local government areas and cyber crimes.
“A comprehensive action plan has been developed to address the emerging issues that threaten the collective peace and security of Kano State,” he said.
He said the command would deploy proactive strategies to prevent and respond to thuggery-related incidents including mobile phone snatching and armed robbery.
“We will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to combat the scourge of drug abuse, providing support for rehabilitation and reintegration programmes.
“I am committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. So, I urge all members of the Kano State police command to remain committed to our shared values of professionalism, discipline and respect for rights,”Bakori said.
He also urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the command to ensure peace and stability in the state.
