Radda to review security strategies as bandits kill 5 security personnel in Katsina
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has vowed to review the security strategies in Katsina state to protect citizens against further attacks by bandits.
The Syndicate reports that the state has been contending with intense attacks on communities by bandits leading to mass evacuations as residents of some communities abandoned their homes in some areas.
The governor who visited Maharba village in Matazu Local Government Area where bandits killed a local Commander of the state Community Security Watch and four other personnel, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to work closely with security agencies and community stakeholders to protect citizens.
The attack claimed the life of the C-Watch Commander, Mallam Sanusi, who coordinated security operations covering Kusada, Kankia, and parts of Charanci Local Government Areas, along with four of his men.
They had responded to intelligence about a large number of bandits approaching villages in Matazu Local Government, but were ambushed at a major stream by approximately twenty bandits on motorcycles who had concealed themselves in mango trees.
The Commander and his team were trapped at the location, and their Hilux vehicle set ablaze during the attack. The vehicle was still smoldering when the Governor visited the scene.
Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu Danmusa acknowledged that the state has been witnessing resurgence of bandits attacks.
He however said that the government has been responding appropriately, adding that a massive success was recorded on Friday when the military eliminated 21 bandits in Ruwan Godiya axis.
“The visit of the state governor to the scene where the five men of the community security watch corps were ambushed and killed by the bandits was to see for himself, and for the ministry to evaluate and make assessment of what happened,” he said.
According to him, the assessment will enable the government to adopt further strategies to protect the lives and property of members of the communities.
Dr. Danmusa appealed to people in the state to support government with prayers and exercise patience as it strives to restore peace in the state.
