Resign now, you’ve failed, CSOs tell Zamfara Governor

The Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Organisations has called out Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, saying he has failed as a leader and should immediately resign.
The coalition, which claimed to have 65 CSOs under it, said the governor has abandoned his responsibilities and has been blaming others for his failures.
The convener, Aminu Abbas Arabi, at a press conference held at Arewa House, Kaduna on Tuesday, said that two years on, Lawal has achieved nothing tangible in Zamfara state.
“Since assuming office, Governor Dauda Lawal has displayed more interest in attacking his predecessor than in delivering democratic dividends to the people of Zamfara,” Arabi said.
“He has become a noisy, empty gong, chasing shadows instead of presenting a tangible scorecard to justify the billions of naira allocated to the state.”
The coalition observed that the security situation in Zamfara has become worse since his assumption of office, with terrorists sacking communities and extorting vulnerable residents.
The group blamed Governor Lawal for failing in his role as the chief security officer of the state, citing recent killings, including that of an imam and his son, as examples of his government’s inaction.
According to Arabi, despite the increase in federal allocations since the fuel subsidy removal, Lawal has not made any significant developmental strides, instead has chosen to engage in “imaginary probes” and “baseless petitions” while Zamfara allegedly slides into chaos.
“It is embarrassing that Zamfara, blessed with abundant human and natural resources, remains underdeveloped because of one man’s incompetence and misplaced priorities.
“If Dauda Lawal can not govern, he should resign immediately,” the group declared.
The coalition also accused the governor of hoarding resources to prosecute his reelection bid in 2027 amidst the deteriorating security situation and absence of development.
They advised him to learn from his Sokoto State counterpart, who also took over from the opposition but has focused on delivering leadership instead of picking up fights.
The group claimed that the governor’s poor relationship with the military has hindered the fight against banditry.
The coalition, therefore, gave the Zamfara governor seven days to face his responsibilities squarely or face a massive civil action.
“If he fails to act within the stipulated period, over 73 million of our members will occupy the Zamfara State Government House, House of Assembly, Judiciary Complex and Secretariat.
“We will no longer sit back and allow politics of blame to destroy our region,” Arabi said.
