‘Threatening, harassing, destroying opposition will boomerang’, Lamido warns Tinubu

A former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that his tactics of using state institutions to threaten, harass and destroy the opposition will boomerang.
“This is democratically harmful to himself and the system,” Lamido told The Syndicate in Birninkudu, Jigawa State at the weekend.
He said that Tinubu should stop using government institutions to fight his political battles and suicide mission.
Lamido chided the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying it has been too afraid to face Nigerians and the opposition, and now hides behind the President who is using state institutions to fight their political battles.
“A political party, no matter how, should be able to depend itself against the opposition,” he berated the APC.
“If APC is working against PDP, there is no problem, but it is the government and the president that are fighting the PDP.
“PDP as the opposition can fight the ruling APC and also APC can fight us, that is normal, but when a whole government of a federation is using its own tools fighting us, this is the danger. So, it is not the APC fighting, it is the government that is fighting us, it is Tinubu as president fighting us.
“If he destroys the system and the institutions he is using, he is simply inviting the mother of all political suicide.”
Lamido, a former foreign affairs minister said those defecting to the ruling party were coarsed to do so. “Those joining him are afraid of EFCC.”
He advised those being harassed now not to be afraid. “What is there to fear? If you roll out what Ribadu said about him (President Tinubu) some years back, why should one be afraid of him?
“This idea of using state institutions, state operatives to destroy opposition political parties amount to self destruction. That is why I said those going there are simply kind of committing suicide. When they reach the end of the road they will came back.”
The former Jigawa state governor said democracy is built on freedom, liberty and opposition, and must be allowed to thrive.
“Tinubu in his own wisdom feels destroying opposition political parties will enhance his political fortune. Unfortunately, he is only being too clever by half, because destroying PDP as a political party means Nigeria would be destroyed, and it will collapse on him.”
Lamido also addressed the issues in his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the recent defections of some prominent members.
“I’m very optimistic that all those who left the PDP are going to come back, just wait for five, six months and to the end of this year.
“Tinubu is on political suicide, those joining are going there on political suicide with Tinubu, they will abandon the mission. By the end of the year, they will came back.”
The Syndicate reports that Lamido, who was among the PDP national delegates elected at the weekend, expressed gratitude for the gesture by party members.
