Tinubu celebrates ‘brilliant’ El-Rufai at 65
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai on his 65th birthday, describing him as a resourceful brilliant administrator, scholar, and politician.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Tinubu hailed El-Rufai’s endeavours for democracy, meritorious service to the nation, and mentorship of younger generation of Nigerians.
He also acknowledged the former governor’s role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress.
“The President acknowledges Mallam El-Rufai’s role in the dialogues leading up to the formation of the APC and his contributions to the success of the party in the three consecutive elections of 2015, 2019, and 2023.”
El-Rufai was Director-General, Bureau of Public Enterprises and later Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007. He was also a two-term governor of Kaduna State from 2015-2023.
El-Rufai has of recent publicly condemned the leadership of the party, including the refusals to call for the meeting of all organs of the APC in the last two years.
He has also taken a swipe at the Tinubu administration, and said the government plans to arrest him on his return to Nigeria.
