Tinubu Sacks CDS, Other Service Chiefs

 

President Bola Tinubu has appointed a new Chief of Defence Staff and Heads of the Army, Air Force and the Nigerian Navy.

The change in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs is in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture, a statement from the Presidency said on Friday.

The change is coming few days after rumours of a coup plot in Nigeria.

General Olufemi Oluyede, the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff replaces General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff.

The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu, while Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke has been appointed Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye, however, retains his position.

The President expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, and dedicated leadership to the Nigerian military.

The President charge the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

All appointments take immediate effect.
