The College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna will begin academic programmes in September, 16 years after the commencement of the construction of the institution.
The premier tertiary institution was initiated by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to enhance indigenous human capacity for the oil and gas industry.
The Syndicate reports that the construction work and equipping of the College was largely completed during the administration of late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The College, which will be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu next week, is fully licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to deliver MSc and PhD programmes in 19 academic programmes.
The programmes will be in Computing, Telecommunications Technology, Earth and Applied Sciences, Energy Law and Management Sciences.
The PTDF Executive Secretary, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, said that the first cohort of PhD students will begin studies in September.
“Through this model, we aim to combine global academic standards with local relevance, ensuring our graduates are equipped to lead in Nigeria’s energy industry,” he said during a visit to Kaduna on Monday.
