Troops capture Garin Fakai, Turji’s operational base
Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have in a dawn operation destroyed Garin Fakai in Zamfara State, the stronghold of bandits’ leader Bello Turji.
Intelligence sources said the troops launched the operation following attempts by bandits to regroup in the Katsira village area.
Although initial searches in the vicinity did not yield significant results, the troops advanced towards Fakai village, a well-known hideout for heavily armed terrorists, and conducted a thorough cordon-and-search operation.
The troops also targeted and destroyed Garin Fakai, which has long served as the operational hub for Bello Turji, one of Nigeria’s most wanted bandit leaders. Several structures within the camp were set ablaze while the bandits fled leaving behind women and children who were later evacuated by the troops.
The operation also led to the recovery of many AK47 rifles, RPG bombs and several ammunitions.
The destruction of Garin Fakai, a vital operational base for Bello Turji, is a significant achievement for troops as they continue to mount pressure on the terrorists across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states.
The military has in the last one week sustained attacks on terrorists locations in Zamfara with devastating successes.
So far, the troops have swept through the bandits’ infested Zurmi forest, neutralised several terrorists, dismantled their makeshift camps, and rescued kidnapped victims.
The troops were also able to repel an ambush by bandits on a military convoy near Dumburum resulting in multiple enemy casualties.
