Yobe Correspondents’ Chapel elects new EXCO

Yobe State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has re-elected Ahmed Abba of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as it’s chairman.
Also elected to lead the chapel for the next three years were Musa Buba Mingyi of Channels Television as Vice Chairman, Habibu Idris Gimba of Daily Trust as Secretary, and Sa’adatu Maina of Neptune Prime as the Treasurer.
The election held on Tuesday at NAN office, along the Gashu’a road, in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
In his speech shortly after the election on Tuesday, the chairman expressed gratitude to members for their trust and pledged to uphold diligence, fairness, and accountability in running the affairs of the chapel.
He also thanked the Electoral Committee for ensuring a transparent election and praised the NUJ leadership in the state for upholding constitutional processes.
He acknowledged past achievements while recognizing challenges, vowing to consolidate gains and pursue greater progress.
Abba urged members to support his administration, emphasizing unity and professionalism.
He stressed the importance of ethical journalism, calling on reporters to prioritize truth, objectivity, and national interest amid Nigeria’s security challenges.
“Responsible reporting can foster social cohesion and aid national security efforts,” he stated while advocating for the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance journalism practice.
He commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni for his remarkable achievements in all facets of development, and for being a friend of the media.
Abba appreciated the the Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, and the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Yobe state Governor, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, for their continuous support and engagement with the media.
The chapel chairman urged all stakeholders in the state, including Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to collaborate with journalists as partners in progress.
