Yobe Hosts North-East Workshop On Accelerating Gender Equality In Public Service

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) has convened a North-East Zonal Women’s Workshop in Damaturu, which focuses on advancing gender equality and service delivery in the public service.
The event held at the state AUPCTRE Secretariat has the theme, “Accelerate Action Towards Gender Equality, Health, and Wellness for Greater Service Delivery”. The event brought together union leaders and members from across the region.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of AUPCTRE, Yobe State Council, Abba Bukar Umar, described the gathering as “a proud moment for our great Union,” saying it was convened to “deepen women’s participation, promote gender equality, and strengthen service delivery in our workplaces.”
Umar highlighted the strong collaboration between the state council and the national headquarters, crediting it for successful capacity-building programmes and structural improvements.
He also extended gratitude to Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for his support and “labour-friendly” policies, citing the sponsorship of 76 state employees for training at the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna.
On his part, the Deputy National President, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, commended Yobe State Government for the “cordial relationship and mutual understanding” of the labour movement.
“From the national headquarters, I must say that Yobe is one of the states we are truly proud of,” Ibrahim stated, praising the state leadership for their excellence and commitment.
Ibrahim urged participants to engage actively in the workshop sessions. “Please, I urge you to pay close attention, so that you can take away one or two key lessons and step them down to our comrades in your respective states.”
He assured attendees that the facilitators were well-equipped and encouraged for a robust exchange of ideas.
Both leaders said the workshop was a vital platform for transformation and empowerment of women in the union to drive progress through solidarity, knowledge sharing, and a renewed commitment to service.
