Yobe NULGE demands payment of minimum wage

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Yobe State Chapter, has demanded for the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage with effect from December.
The State NULGE chairman, Comrade Baba Shehu Mustapha, said local council workers appreciate the approval of the minimum wage and urged that they also be paid from December, just like state government workers.
The NULGE chairman stated this during the union’s 8th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference in Damaturu.
“We appreciate the gracious gesture of His Execellency for the approval of 70,000 minimum wage for state workers with effect from December, 2024. Equally, we crave the indulgence of Governor Mai Mala Buni to extend the same gesture to local government staff in the state.
“This, considering the fact that we go to the same market with state workers and both of us are humble with high inflationary trend facing the economy of the country,” Baba Shehu said.
The chairman also urged the government to increase the running cost of local governments to enhance effective third tier administration.
“We are also requesting the state government to increase training and retraining of local government staff to enhance productivity,” he said.
The chairman said NULGE would continue to work with the government to ensure effective service delivery at the local government level.
To the union members, Baba Shehu said the union had ensured regular promotion for LG workers, and prompt payment of pensions and gratuities to retired local government staff.
