A philanthropist, Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Zakari, has extended humanitarian support to widows in Jigawa State with the donation of bags of rice and a bull to widows under the Christian Association of Nigeria, Jigawa State chapter.
The gesture, aimed at cushioning the effects of hardship and spreading festive cheer, benefited 250 widows across the Jigawa South-West Senatorial District, which comprises seven local government areas of Dutse Emirate.
Each beneficiary received a 10-kilogramme bag of rice, while a bull was donated to complement the support during the Christmas celebration.
Speaking during the distribution, Dr. Halima, represented by her aide, Mr. Umar Baffa Kiyawa, said that the donation was intended to “put smiles on the faces of our sisters during this global festive season and make the celebration joyful and memorable.”
Halima added that she has a deep concern for women, particularly widows who have lost their spouses and major sources of support and happiness in life.
On her part, the Deputy Chairperson of WIWAN in Jigawa State, Mrs. Happiness Florence, expressed profound appreciation for the kind gesture, describing it as a reflection of genuine humanity and compassion.
She said the assistance was timely, noting that many of the beneficiaries lacked basic food items for the Christmas celebration.
“Some of the widows here did not even have rice to cook for Christmas. This support has brought great relief. We sincerely appreciate her kindness,” Mrs. Florence said.
She called on Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to encourage and support Hajiya (Dr) Halima Sulaiman Zakari to vie for the position of Senator representing Jigawa South-West, in line with the policy of allocating 30 per cent of elective and appointive positions to women.
