Yuletide: Police ban unauthorised horse riding, fireworks in Kano

The police command in Kano State, has banned unauthorised horse riding and the use of fireworks during the 2024 yuletide throughout the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Salman Garba, said this in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi on Monday in Kano.
Abdullahi said that the command had put in place adequate security arrangements in liaison with other Security Agencies to ensure the security of life and property before, during, and after the celebrations.
“In a lecture held today (Monday) at Police Officers’ Mess Conference Hall, the Commissioner of Police directed all Departmental Heads, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and other Supervising Officers to ensure adequate security at worshipping centers and recreational facilities.
“He also directed them to ensure Round-the-clock visibility patrols, effective traffic control for smooth flow of traffic throughout the state as well as widening of channels of intelligence gathering ahead of the festive periods
“The Command has also cautioned residents to avoid suspicious objects and refrain from carrying unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension when going to worshipping centers.
“Be vigilant , report any suspicious person, movement, or item to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s Emergency Numbers,” he said.
Abdullahi added: “All forms of unauthorized horse riding is prohibited and the use of fireworks is completely banned throughout the state.”
He said that the command had also warned against obstructing highways and disrupting public order as such acts were serious offenses under the laws of the country because they can lead to accidents, injuries, and damage to property.
“The Kano State police command has observed with concern the recent trend of youths blocking roads in Kano, engaging in dancing, washing, singing, and other activities in the name of social media content creation.
“These actions are not only causing unnecessary traffic congestion but also posing a significant risk to public safety.
“The Kano State Police Command hereby warns all individuals and groups involved in these activities to desist immediately. Parents and guardians are also advised to caution their wards against participating in such activities,” Haruna said.
He said that the command was committed to maintaining public safety and order, and would not hesitate to take necessary measures to address this issue.
“This may include arresting and prosecuting offenders.
“The Commissioner of Police advised the public to report any instances of highway obstruction or disruption of public order to the nearest police stations for prompt action,” Haruna added.
