Yusuf takes over command of Nigerian Army Infantry Corps
The immediate Director-General of Land Forces Simulation Centre, Nigeria, Major General Usman Yusuf has assumed duty as the 58th Commander of the elite Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.
Yusuf, a member of the Regular Course 39 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, assumed office on Friday at the Infantry Corps headquarters in Jaji Military Cantonment, near Kaduna.
He took over from Major General Abdul Ibrahim, who moved to the Nigerian Defence Academy as Commandant.
Yusuf appealed for maximum support in order to meet the expectations of Nigerian by ending all the security crisis in the country.
According to him, the Infantry Corps should shoulder this responsibility the more, because it has the largest number of the Nigerian Army fighting force.
He therefore charged the troops to commit themselves to meeting the “responsibility of winning all land battles in favour of Nigeria”.
“We will do our best to bring peace to the country,” he added, and urged the troops to key into the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, who has brought about many changes.
“The army chief is very passionate about winning the war and along that line, he has increased the ration cash allowance of troops in operations by 100 per cent.
“That shows how he cares about troops welfare to motivate them to fight. We want them to be motivated along that line and finish the battle quickly.”
Earlier in his remarks while handing over the command of the corps, Major General Ibrahim welcomed the new commander and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Infantry corps to greater heights.
He also expressed gratitude to God, the Chief of Army Staff and all senior officers for the opportunity to command the corps, and highlighted some of his achievements to include making the corps more cohesive and mimission-oriented, prioritising personnel’s welfare and placing key officers in their rightful positions.
The outgone commander also hailed the COAS’s commitment to troops’ welfare, citing the recent 100 per cent increase in Ration Cash Allowance, and the directive to all units to improve feeding quality and other welfare issues.
He appreciated the COAS for executing some intervention projects and the Chief of Defence Staff for his strategic guidance and support.
Ibrahim informed the new commander that the corps is evolving new strategies to enhance operational competence, and currently reviewing the training curriculum of the Infantry School to tailor it to contemporary security challenges.
