Jigawa Pension Board holds in-house training to enhance internal audit effectiveness

The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has organized a two-day in-house training workshop for internal audit staff titled “Narrowing the Expectation Gap Arising from Internal Audit Role – A Practical Approach.”
The workshop, facilitated by the Executive Secretary of the Scheme, Dr. Bilyaminu Aminu Shittu, is aimed to address critical challenges faced by internal auditors within the organization. These challenges include the absence of a comprehensive and well-articulated schedule of duties, non-submission of timely audit reports, lack of documented audit guidelines, and friction-prone working relationships between internal auditors and stakeholders.
Shittu stated that the training seeks to bridge these gaps and enhance the effectiveness of internal audit functions. Participants engaged in discussions focused on developing a comprehensive schedule of duties, creating an Audit Manual for the Scheme, and fostering a collaborative working environment between internal auditors and stakeholders.
He emphasized that the internal audit function is crucial for the continuity, safety, stability, and overall achievement of the Scheme’s objectives. This workshop will help internal auditors better understand their expected roles and functions, thereby minimizing misconceptions that often lead to friction with stakeholders.
This initiative reflects the Board’s commitment to enhancing the quality of service delivery within the Scheme and ensuring compliance with established systems in accounting, internal control, investment, and IT. By equipping internal auditors with practical skills and knowledge, the workshop will contribute to effective audit practices that support the overall mission of the Contributory Pension Scheme,” the Auditor General stated
The Auditor General for Local Government Audit, Shehu A. Kaila, described the initiative as a valuable step that will improve the skills and knowledge of the staff. He added that the workshop will also enhance the quality of service within the Scheme.
